Black Sand Beach Maui Reservation
A reservation is currently required to visit the Black Sand Beach Maui if you are not a resident of Hawaii.
Maui’s black sand beach, officially Pailoa Beach, is located inside the very popular Waianapanapa State Park, which requires advance reservations for entry for out-of-state visitors.
Waianapanapa State Park instituted a reservation system for the park and its black sand beach in 2021 in order to manage visitation, provide a better experience for visitors, and help preserve Pailoa Beach and its surrounds.

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance. Due to the high popularity of the black sand beach on Maui, you should make your reservations as soon as your date opens up, but no later than the day before you plan to visit.
Same-day reservations are not available.

Reservations for Waianapanapa State Park (and Black Sand Beach Maui) are offered in four slots each day: 7 a.m. – 10 a.m., 10 a.m. – 12.30 p.m., 12.30 p.m. – 3 p.m., and 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. You can book more than one slot if you anticipate spending more time in the park.
Note that the mid day slots are very popular because they work for folks doing the Road to Hana drive in one day.
You should plan to arrive within the first 30 minutes of your reservation slot. If you arrive after 30 minutes into your reservation period, you may be denied access and/or parking.

Non-residents of Hawaii visiting with a Hawaii resident still need entry tickets purchased in advance.
