Honokalani Black Sand Beach Maui

Maui’s black sand beach is also known as the Honokalani Black Sand Beach Maui.

Honokalani Black Sand Beach is located in Waianapanapa State Park, just a short drive north of the town of Hana. If you are driving the Road to Hana, the beach comes up at mile marker 32.

Black sand beaches are formed by waves pounding hardened lava on the shore. It takes thousands of years to break the rock down, and today you will still see Lava rocks and pebbles on Honokalani Beach along with areas of finer black sand.

While the small beach, featuring glistening black sand and pebbles, is justly famous for its beauty, visitors that want to spend more time here have many more things to do around the beach in Waianapanapa State Park.

To visit Waianapanapa State Park and Honokalani Black Sand Beach in Maui, you have to make advance reservations online.
